Kemper Equipment is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to join our dynamic team of engineers and technical experts. This role provides an exciting opportunity to contribute to innovative projects in a collaborative environment. As a Structural Engineer, you will work closely with mechanical engineers, designers and fabrication teams to design, estimate and manage complex structural projects from inception to completion.
This role can be remote, but local candidates may work in-office if desired. Remote candidates must have the ability to work effectively from home. Relocation Assistance is not available.

Key Responsibilities: Lead structural engineering efforts, including interpreting specifications, performing structural analysis, designing components, and resolving issues during manufacturing and installation. Perform advanced design calculations to select structural steel members, systems, and foundations, ensuring compliance with AISC standards. Develop, analyze, and interpret structural models using RISA-3D and AutoCAD 3D, integrating seamlessly with other project components. Prepare and oversee steel shop drawings and layout approval drawings, ensuring adherence to company and industry standards. Utilize MS Excel to create and manage complex design spreadsheets. Collaborate with mechanical engineers and designers to ensure proper interfaces between structures and equipment. Support Estimating and Sales teams by providing structural insights during project proposals. Coordinate with geotechnical, process, mechanical, and electrical engineering teams and consultants to ensure project success. Conduct site visits to evaluate existing structures and gather measurements for the integration of new equipment. Work with fabrication teams to address and resolve structural challenges during manufacturing. Contribute to the development and maintenance of standard details, models, and specifications.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering (required). Minimum of 3 years of experience in the Structural and/or Civil Engineering field. Advanced knowledge of AISC, AWS, OSHA, and MSHA standards. Proficiency with structural design software, including RISA-3D (or similar), and AutoCAD (3D modeling, design, and 2D drawing creation). Expertise in structural design involving steel and concrete materials. Strong understanding of structural steel detailing and concrete foundation principles. Professional Engineer (PE) license (preferred). Solid skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, and the full MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.). Clear and effective communication skills with a results-oriented mindset. Self-motivated, proactive, and capable of managing tasks independently. Familiarity with industries such as mining, quarrying, or conveyor systems is highly valued. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship. Experience in the Bulk Material Handling industry is strongly preferred but not required. Strong mechanical aptitude and broad-based machine knowledge are helpful.

Candidates must reside in the Western Pennsylvania region to best support client site visits and other travel expectations.Additionally, occasional travel to the Warrendale, PA office and other Constellation offices will be required, for in-person meetings and collaboration, as requested by leadership.PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITIONThe Sr. Development Engineer identifies and develops large-scale energy services and energy asset projects for municipal and state governments, colleges and universities, public school districts, healthcare, commercial, public housing and industrial customers. Provides technical and financial analysis of energy conservation and renewable energy measures for projects under consideration. Evaluates existing conditions and conceptualizes energy and cost saving opportunities at customer facilities. Assists project leaders in the project development process. Acts as the Project Engineer on some assignments and works collaboratively with the Project Manager and Principal Development Engineer.PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIESConducts ASHRAE Level II and III energy audits and prepares written proposals for potential energy conservation upgrades, including detailed analyses of costs and savings.Leads and performs engineering tasks associated with a critical or analytical engineering project or a small number of complex projects that require specialized knowledge in many areas.Develops preliminary designs and estimates of cost and energy savings for projects involving a variety of energy conservation measures at customer's facilities, by providing technical expertise and implementation recommendations to the customer.Develops large-scale lighting and water conservation projects, with an emphasis on auditing capabilities, specification / design and energy calculations. Oversee, review and evaluate 3rd party design intents and QC all submissions for cost reasonableness, savings and constructability.Use knowledge of current lighting technologies with the ability to audit, design and manage the implementation of the prescribed measures in various types of construction, up to and including street & highway applications.Use of current energy calculation software to assist in building modelingDemonstrates leadership in the area of safety. Observing and enforcing safety rules and practices, encouraging safe work behaviors, and promptly correcting conditions and unsafe behaviors, which may lead to accidents.Participates in technical and industry societies and committees to enhance knowledge of new technologies or issues in areas of company interest.Implements company project control processes to develop projects in accordance with established cost, schedule, and quality requirements.POSITION SPECIFICATIONSMinimum Qualifications:Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and 5 years of relevant work experience in the evaluation and implementation of energy conservation projectsAbility to analyze and interpret complex electrical and mechanical systems.Knowledge and ability to apply problem solving approaches and engineering theory.Knowledge of engineering designs, principles and practices.Detailed knowledge of applicable construction standards and codes.Ability to apply engineering principles to identify and resolve issuesKnowledge and demonstrated ability to develop complex energy conservation projects for construction building and retrofitsDetailed knowledge of heating, ventilating, air conditioning (HVAC), electrical systems, building automation systems and process related systems in commercial, industrial, governmental, and hospital buildingsKnowledge of renewable and distributed generation solutionsKnowledge of, and the ability to apply project life cycle cost analysesProficiency on the use of computer-based applications including Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and project database applications.
